The Gildan 18000 Heavy Blend is a crewneck sweatshirt in a 50% American cotton / 50% polyester blend at 280 g/m², with ring-spun brushed on the inside for a soft hand feel. The 50/50 composition offers two measurable technical advantages over 100% cotton: better dimensional stability through washing and reduced pilling over time. For printing, the 50% cotton ensures excellent plastisol ink adhesion in , while the 50% polyester rules out discharge and full . With 31 confirmed EU colours the palette includes the main institutional colours (Navy, Black, Royal, Forest Green, Red), a selection of vivids (Safety Green, Heliconia, Orange, Purple) and technical greys (Sport Grey, Dark , Graphite Heather, Charcoal). The 280gsm weight and brushed fleece structure make this sweatshirt particularly well suited to embroidery: the garment holds hooping tension without distorting and the fleece ensures stitch stability. Stabiliser backing recommended but often unnecessary at 280gsm. The 50/50 blend does not cause abnormal pilling around embroidery over time. Excellent results on all 31 colours.
The tubular 50/50 fleece offers a stable, uniform surface for plastisol screen printing. Cotton ensures good ink adhesion; polyester requires care with curing temperature: max 160°C to prevent dye migration, particularly on light colours. White underbase required on Black, Navy, Forest Green, Charcoal, Dark Heather, Graphite Heather, Dark Chocolate, Indigo Blue. The 280gsm weight stabilises the garment on the platen, making positioning easier than with lower GSM options.
