Definition

Microfibre is a synthetic fabric made from polyester (or nylon) yarns with a diameter below 1 decitex — approximately one-fifth of a standard yarn. The result is an exceptionally smooth, soft surface with a compact, technical look.

The ultra-fine yarn structure creates a very high weave density: the fabric is lightweight but with good cover, with quick-drying properties and moisture management. Across technical garments and accessories — structured sports caps, visors, mid-to-high snapbacks, as well as performance apparel — microfibre is valued for its compact, professional look. It cannot be embroidered directly without a stabilising backing as the fine yarn tends to distort under the needle; screen printing requires inks formulated for smooth surfaces; DTF and heat transfer are the most suitable techniques.
